Bio
Lisa Hutson is a self-taught artist who was fortunate enough to catch the interest of her high school art teachers many years ago. Several years later she indulged in a couple of drawing classes at the local community college while raising two children and working full time. Lisa has managed to draw and paint periodically over the next twenty years and recently returned to her gift in her fifties, full time. She believes her artistic talent is a gift from love and that her later-in-life expression and fulfillment of this is a gift from love as well. Lisa was born and currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio.
Artist Statement
Hello and thank you for your interest! I love to paint a variety of subjects because it allows me to tune in to my unlimited self and create to my heart’s content. For example, portrait painting is rejuvenating for my creative energy as I meet the challenge to capture a person’s likeness, energy and then share it with them. However, painting nature and landscapes keep me excited to recreate a feeling and bring my own expression of it to light. Lastly, I like to paint abstracts in bold colors, soft expressions and a sense of space to hopefully invite the viewer to a more elevated experience. Still, I will always default to portrait painting. I love the human face, natural skin tones, human expressions and sense of self within the painting. The process and time it takes to actualize these on a 2-dimensional surface and then to share it with the model and others is the type of “work” I could do daily and forever.
