I only had one art class in high school but went on to study several years at Cooper School of Art and The Cleveland Institute of Art, countless Life Drawing sessions around Cleveland. I've drawn at the Science Center, Cleveland Museum of Art and Natural History Museum. My work is on display at Mac's Backs on Coventry, Fiddlehead Gallery at 13002 Larchmere, Sokolowski's University Inn, along with the storefront windows of my studio The Manly Pad at 2490 Professor ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44113.

In the beginning the Literary Cafe didn’t open till 9 pm and closed at 1:00 so we would start drawing at 10:00 pm and draw till 1:00 in the morning. On top of that I required that the models pose two nights so I could spend one day on the hands and one on the portrait. I completed the backgrounds at home and it was time consuming. The only artists with me and Brian then were Jim Gerber and a couple of regulars from the neighborhood. A couple of years in Larry Zuzik, Howard Collier, Juan Quirarte, Jeff Suntala and Jack Flotte joined us from the Murray Hill drawing group. It was then that I drew smaller and finished in one night not drawing the hands. My large drawing pad 32” x 40” was too big with so many artists joining us so it was then I switched to a smaller drawing pad 16” x 20”. Years later it was Larry Zuzik’s beautiful color work that persuaded me to switch to pastels from conte crayons.

Personal Work

K-3 Gang Drive by! (Kingergarden - 3rd grade)

I prefer to draw or paint from live subject matter. Most of the paintings here are plein air, painted from drawings done on location, drawn at the Natural History Museum and in case of the large K-3 Drive By above, animal and child paintings and Lucky’s cafe in winter were completed from photos.

Figure drawing and painting

Drawing of the plasticized people that were at Cleveland’s Science Center. No photos were allowed but I was allowed to take my 32” by 40” drawing board in and draw. Each drawing was about 3 hours.
